On October 15, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded at Milimani Magistrate's Court during the divorce case proceedings of Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and Marianne Kitany.
Kitany's bodyguard caused panic and drama when he displayed his firearm in court, interrupting the proceedings for ten minutes.
Lawyer Danstan Omari, representing Kitany in the divorce case, defended the bodyguard, stating that Kitany had hired armed bodyguards to protect herself after being threatened by Linturi.
However, Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora ignored Omari's plea and ordered a body-search on Kitany's bodyguard, who was found possessing a firearm.
Following court regulations, Magistrate Gesora ordered the bodyguard to leave the courtroom.
The drama also interrupted a Catholic priest, Father Jackson Micheni of Tigania Parish church, who claimed to have solemnized Linturi's marriage to Mercy Kaimenyi on April 18, 2000.
