On October 15, 2019, a ferry carrying hundreds of passengers and vehicles stalled midway through the Likoni channel in Mombasa, Kenya.

The MV Likoni ferry, which was carrying hundreds of passengers and vehicles, was pushed to the shore by the MV Jambo after it stalled midway through the channel.

The incident has raised concerns over the management of ferries at the Likoni channel, with locals calling on the government to ensure the vessels are in good working conditions to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Just days before, a car with a woman and her child on board slid off the MV Harambee ferry due to a faulty ramp, resulting in their deaths.

Locals have expressed outrage over the incident, with one passenger, Nicholas Songora, saying, "Kenya Ferry Service management must stop joking with Wanjiku's life. Now MV Likoni is faulty but they force ferrying both vehicles and passengers. MV Jambo has come to our rescue and pushing MV Likoni is the best rescue happening now."

The incident has sparked renewed calls for improved management of ferries at the Likoni channel, with locals demanding that the government takes action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
