On October 15, 2019, the Taita Taveta County Assembly impeached Governor Granton Samboja, a decision that has now been forwarded to the senate.

The senate has formed an 11-member committee to investigate the allegations against the governor, including gross misconduct, misappropriation of funds, and inciting the public against the county assembly.

The committee, comprising senators George Khaniri, Achillo Ayako, Naomi waqo, Njeru Ndwiga, Aron Cheruiyot, Charles Kibiru, Boniface Kabaka, Beatrice kwamboka, and Agnes Zani, has 10 days to file its report.

The governor's fate now lies in the hands of the senate committee, which will decide whether to uphold the impeachment or clear him of the allegations.
