On October 15, 2019, Tanzania's President John Pombe Magufuli made a significant announcement, stating that he would be relocating from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, where he would be serving the nation.
Magufuli's decision marks a significant shift from the past, as he will be leaving behind the presidential palace in Dar es Salaam, which has been the seat of power for several Tanzanian presidents, including Julius Nyerere and Jakaya Kikwete.
According to Magufuli, he has chosen to relocate to Dodoma because it is his hometown, and he wants to be closer to the people he serves.
"I have decided to come to Katavi to register as a voter, and now I will be here officially, you will see me frequently, and I will be doing all my work here," Magufuli said in a statement.
Magufuli's decision to relocate to Dodoma is a significant step towards fulfilling a long-held dream of Tanzania's founding father, Julius Nyerere, who first proposed the idea of moving the capital to Dodoma in the 1960s.
