Kenyan Trio Nominated for IAAF World Athlete of the Year ¶
Kenyan athletes Brigid Kosgei, Beatrice Chepkoech, and Hellen Obiri have been nominated for the prestigious IAAF Female World Athlete of the Year award.
The trio joins a list of 10 other athletes from around the world who have been recognized for their outstanding performances in the past year.
According to the IAAF, the nominees were selected by an international panel of athletics experts, comprising representatives from all six continental areas of the IAAF.
The nominees include Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica), Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Great Britain), Sifan Hassan (Netherlands), Mariya Lasitskene (Russia), Malaika Mihambo (Germany), Dalilah Muhammad (USA), Salwa Eid Naser (Bahrain), and Yulimar Rojas (Venezuela).

Beatrice Chepkoech, who holds the world record in the 3000m steeplechase, has had a remarkable year, winning the world title in a championship record of 8:57.84 and also winning the Diamond League title.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who won the world 100m and 4x100m titles in world-leading times, is also among the nominees.
Other notable nominees include Sifan Hassan, who won the world 1500m and 10,000m titles in world-leading times, and Hellen Obiri, who won the world cross-country title and the world 5000m title in a championship record of 14:26.72.
The IAAF Council and the IAAF Family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the IAAF’s social media platforms.
The male and female World Athletes of the Year will be announced live on stage at the World Athletics Awards 2019 gala on November 23.
