On September 29, 2019, a devastating incident occurred when a car slid into the Indian Ocean during the Likoni Ferry tragedy, claiming the lives of Mariam Kigenda and Amanda.

Thirteen days later, their remains were recovered in the back seat of the car, still in a tight embrace.

According to reports, the Kenya Ferry Service has compensated the family of the victims, with each of the two recipients, Mr. John Wambua and Mr. Peter Mwaghogho, receiving Ksh 100,000.

The compensation, paid through National Bank, has raised questions about the value placed on human life.
