Published on October 15, 2019, Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) has provided financial assistance to the family of Mariam Kigenda, who tragically lost her life in the Likoni ferry tragedy along with her four-year-old daughter Amanda.
The agency has given Ksh.200,000 to the family for funeral arrangements, with Ksh.100,000 allocated to the widower John Wambua and a separate Ksh.100,000 to Peter Mwaghogho, the father of the late Mariam.
However, the family is yet to receive the bodies of the two victims for burial as a post mortem examination has not been carried out at the Coast General Hospital.
Mr. Wambua has expressed his doubts over the cause of the accident, stating, “She has been driving for over 10 years, she is a very careful driver… I doubt it was her negligence, you saw the car, it was in parking gear, the handbrake was activated.”
The late Mariam and her daughter Amanda are set to be buried in Mung'ala village, Makueni County.
