Former Nation FM radio presenter Angela Angwenyi has been left homeless after auctioneers took over her posh home in Nairobi's Jacaranda Gardens estate to recover a debt she owes.
Angwenyi's financial difficulties are linked to her involvement in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal, in which her company, Out of the Box Solutions Ltd, was awarded a Ksh302 million tender.
According to reports, Angwenyi's company had won a consultancy contract worth Ksh302 million to publicise tenders for women and the youth, but she was only paid Ksh90 million, citing a lack of specific deliverables.
Angwenyi appeared before the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and explained that she had completed 60% of the work, but was yet to receive the remaining amount.
However, the PAC stopped payments, leaving Angwenyi with a significant debt. The exact amount she owes is not clear, but the auctioneers have taken over her home to recover the debt.
Angwenyi's case is one of several high-profile cases arising from the NYS scandal, which involved former Youth Affairs and Gender principal secretary Lillian Omollo and her children.
