On October 13, 2019, a 53-year-old man, Sospeter Ouma, committed a heinous act in Ogwedhi village, Suna East, Migori County, beheading his 87-year-old mother.
According to Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge, Ouma had attacked his mother and brother days earlier, but was restrained by other family members.
When word of the killing spread, angry villagers pounced on Ouma, beating him mercilessly. Police officers later intervened, but Ouma succumbed to his injuries at Migori Level Four Hospital.
Area Chief Wilson Ogwada stated that Ouma had returned from Mombasa recently, looking mentally disturbed.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary.
