On September 29, 2019, a devastating ferry accident occurred in Likoni, resulting in the loss of Mariam Kigenda and her daughter Amanda's lives.

Their car slid into the Indian Ocean, leaving behind a family and community in grief.

According to reports, Kenya Ferry has compensated the family with Ksh 200,000, which was shared between Mariam's husband, John Wambua, and her father, Peter Mwaghogho.

Each received Ksh 100,000, a gesture that acknowledges the immense loss suffered by the family.

Speaking about his late wife, John Wambua described Mariam as a hardworking individual who managed their farm in Msambweni.

“Teachers, parents, and her classmates are heartbroken,” Wambua said, highlighting the impact of their loss on the community.

“It is a big loss to me and the whole family. I loved my wife, and she loved me too,” he added, fighting back tears.
