Kenya Power has taken a firm stance against companies and individuals illegally stringing telecommunications cables on electricity distribution poles across the country.
On October 15, 2019, the company issued a 14-day notice to those involved in the illegal activities, citing a breach of their wayleave trace and safety clearances.
According to a statement, the illegal activities have led to fires that have damaged third-party property in some parts of the country, as well as an increase in cases of injuries and fatalities involving third-party personnel operating in close contact with live power lines.
"There has also been an increase in cases of injuries and fatalities recorded involving third-party personnel operating in close contact with live power lines as a result of the encroachment," the statement said.
The company has also reported disruptions in power supply resulting in energy, financial, and infrastructural losses.
Kenya Power is urging those involved in the illegal activities to cease operations immediately and comply with the necessary regulations to ensure public safety.
