Ronaldo Reaches 700th Career Goal

On Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th career goal in Portugal's Euro 2020 qualifier against Ukraine, a penalty that ultimately proved to be a consolation in a 2-1 loss.

With 973 matches under his belt, Ronaldo has scored at least once in 458 of those, a testament to his enduring goal-scoring prowess.

His 700th goal also marked his 95th for Portugal, leaving him just behind Iranian Ali Daei in the international charts, who has scored 109 goals.

Ukraine's win means they have qualified for Euro 2020, while Ronaldo's achievement solidifies his place in the record books alongside an elite group of players to have hit at least 700 goals in their career.

According to data from Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation, Ronaldo still trails the most prolific player of all time, Czech-Austrian Josef Bican, who has scored 805 career goals.

Other notable players in the top five include Brazil legend Romario (772 goals), Pele (767 goals), Ferenc Puskas (746 goals), and Gerd Muller (735 goals).

Ronaldo has a long history of breaking records, and his ongoing tussle with Barcelona's Lionel Messi to be statistically the outright best player in Europe remains a compelling narrative.

With several records still within his grasp, Ronaldo's goal-scoring exploits continue to captivate fans and inspire his peers.
