On October 14, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Edwin Abonyo, the widower of former Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, to the State Corporations Advisory Committee for a period of three years.

Abonyo is one of seven individuals appointed to the Jeremiah Matagaro-led committee, which includes Wanjiku Wakogi as Secretary, Winfred Kaburu, Cecil Kuyo, Cyrus Gituai, Tom Maina Macharia, Roselyn B. Tumpeyo, and Gloria Ndekei as members.

Abonyo's appointment comes just three months after his wife's passing due to cancer.

Separately, Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani appointed former Othaya Member of Parliament Mary Wambui as the Chairperson of the National Employment Authority (NEA) for the next three years, effective immediately.

Wambui takes over from Winnie Pertet, who served as NEA chair from its inception in April 2016 until the end of her term.
