Kenyan Athletes Eliud Kipchoge and Timothy Cheruiyot Nominated for IAAF Award

Kenyan athletes Eliud Kipchoge and Timothy Cheruiyot have been nominated for the IAAF Male Athlete of the Year award. The nominees were announced by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on October 14, 2019.

Eliud Kipchoge, who won the IAAF crown last year, has been making headlines for his historic run in Vienna, where he became the first man to run a marathon under two hours. Although the record was not acceptable via IAAF standards, Kipchoge's feat has inspired millions across the globe.

Timothy Cheruiyot, who won the Diamond Trophy and the 1500m race at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, is also among the nominees. Cheruiyot's victory in Doha marked his first major title, and he has been on a roll, winning 10 of his 11 outdoor races across all distances.

The nominees for the IAAF Male Athlete of the Year award include:

  • Christian Taylor (USA)
  • Karsten Warholm (NOR)

A three-way voting process will determine the finalists. The IAAF Council and the IAAF Family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the IAAF's social media platforms.
