On 15th October 2019, the government of Kenya announced a reduction in fuel prices, bringing relief to Kenyan motorists.

The reduction in fuel prices was attributed to the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, which decreased by 7.66% in one month.

According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices across the country were reduced compared to the previous period.

In Nairobi, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices are as follows:

  • Super Petrol decreased by KSh 4.76 per litre
  • Diesel decreased by KSh 1.08 per litre
  • Kerosene increased by KSh 0.44 per litre

The pump prices are inclusive of 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 109 of 9th July 2019.
