On October 15, 2019, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri announced that the government would spend Sh200 million on aflasafe, a bio-product used to control aflatoxin, for distribution to the worst-hit counties.

Aflatoxin is a poisonous carcinogen produced by fungi that attacks crops such as maize, peanuts, and cotton seeds.

According to Mr. Kiunjuri, the government aims to help farmers bring an end to aflatoxin by distributing aflasafe to counties.

"This year, the government will be distributing Aflasafe to counties to help our farmers bring an end to aflatoxin," Mr. Kiunjuri told journalists in Nanyuki.

He emphasized the importance of using aflasafe, stating that it would help eliminate aflatoxin, which contributes to cancer infections.

Mr. Kiunjuri also noted that the government would partner with counties to help small-scale farmers produce safe food.

The government approved the use of aflasafe in 2015, and the Pest Control Products Board registered it, paving the way for its usage.
