On October 15, 2019, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board chairman Prof. Edwin Wamukoya downplayed allegations he would give outgoing FKF president Nick Mwendwa an unfair advantage in the upcoming elections.

FKF president Nick Mwendwa has announced his intention to run for a second four-year term during the FKF presidential elections on December 7.

However, two of his perceived challengers, Sam Nyamweya and Moses Akaranga, argue that Wamukoya will not provide a level playing ground during the polls.

According to Akaranga, a seasoned politician and former Vihiga Governor, Wamukoya's neutrality is questionable since he is an FKF employee.

Sam Nyamweya, a former FKF president, added that having the Electoral Board team operate from the FKF secretariat in Kasarani would give Mwendwa an upper hand.

'It is like having the IEBC operating from State House,' Nyamweya said.

Wamukoya, however, disputed these claims, stating that he does not work for FKF and that his previous role as chairman of the club-licensing team was an independent body with a specific mandate.

'Anyone who has issues should come and we try to tackle them. The football laws dictate we will be appointed and paid by FKF but we have a code that will guide us through the process,' he said.
