On October 14, 2019, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a reduction in the cost of super petrol and diesel in its latest maximum pump prices review.

According to the review, petrol users will see the largest relief, with a Ksh.4.76 per liter decrease in costs. Diesel users will also see a marginal relief, with a Ksh.1.08 decrease in costs.

However, the price of kerosene has been increased by 44 cents per liter.

EPRA attributed the adjustments to variations in the average landed cost of petroleum products during the month of September, with the overall costs of lifted free on-board oil increasing by 3.4 percent.

Following the review, petrol will retail at Ksh.108.05 per liter and diesel at Ksh.101.96 beginning midnight on Monday in Nairobi. The cost of kerosene per liter will rise to Ksh.101.08 following the upward adjustment to its maximum cost.

The continued plunge of petroleum products will serve to provide further impetus to the recovery of the country's inflation growth rate, which fell to a 17-month low of 3.58 percent at the end of September.
