Guinea's President Alpha Conde has faced opposition since his election in 2010, with critics accusing him of a crackdown on protests.

On October 14, 2019, a day of demonstrations was called to oppose constitutional changes that could enable Conde to seek a third term in office.

Clashes between police and protesters in the suburb of Sonfonia Gare resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy and injuries to four others, according to a doctor.

Police fired stun grenades and teargas against groups of protesters in the opposition stronghold of Cosa, an AFP reporter witnessed.

Conde, a former opposition figure, has been accused of human rights abuses since taking office in 2010.

At least 100 people have been killed since Conde's election, according to opposition estimates.
