On October 14, 2019, Deputy President Dr. William Ruto shared his story of mentorship with Eliud Kipchoge, the world-renowned marathon champion, at his official residence in Karen.

According to the Deputy President, he first met Kipchoge during his days in KANU, when Kipchoge was a close friend to President Uhuru Kenyatta and a loyal aide to former President Daniel Moi.

Dr. Ruto revealed that he helped Kipchoge keep track of his career and prophesied that he would one day hit the world's media headlines if he kept practicing hard.

Despite not being a fan of going to the gym, Dr. Ruto took an interest in Kipchoge's task of running under two hours and sacrificed political engagements to follow his progress.

'You all know how Kibra is important to us, but I still made time to be with Eliud. That is the kind of dedication we need from our leaders so that our athletes prosper,' Dr. Ruto finalized.
