On October 14, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto took to Twitter to express his outrage over a story published by a local daily.
According to the story, Ruto's attempts to persuade President Uhuru Kenyatta to convene a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting had failed.
Instead, Uhuru reportedly turned to opposition parties ODM and Wiper to push for a Sh9 trillion borrowing ceiling in Parliament.
Ruto dismissed the claims, calling them 'fake news.'
He stated, 'FAKE NEWS at it again! I chaired the IBEC meeting that approved the matter way before it came to parliament. Unfortunately for Nation, Uhuruto is inseparable. They should either register as a political party then compete with Jubilee or operate a gutter journal for makotsi to run.'
Ruto also denied claims that Uhuru had sought the help of opposition leader Raila Odinga, saying he had chaired the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council meetings and approved the budget before it was tabled in Parliament.
However, sources revealed that Ruto had indeed accepted the President's order to mobilize MPs to pass the motion, but had requested Uhuru to summon the PG to allow members to discuss the issue and adopt a common position.
Additionally, Ruto had asked the President to join the fray in campaigning for the Jubilee Party candidate in the Kibra by-election on November 7.
