Kenya Lionesses are set to return home tomorrow after securing a spot in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The team will arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 2 pm.
Published on October 14, 2019, this news comes after the team sealed a ticket for the 2020 Olympics Games. This is the second time the Lionesses have qualified for the Olympics, following their first appearance in 2016 in Brazil.
Despite losing 14-15 to South Africa on Sunday, the Lionesses secured their spot in the Olympics due to a rule change by the South African Olympic Committee. The rule prevents South African teams from qualifying for the Olympics from an African regional competition.
The Lionesses have also qualified for the HSBC World Sevens Series qualification tournament, which will run concurrently with the Hong Kong 7s in April 2020.
