On Sunday, police in Siaya County arrested a 19-year-old woman, Judith Awuor Omondi, who allegedly attempted to kill herself and two children in Nyakasumbi village, Bondo Township.
According to area Assistant Chief Ayub Ogola, the woman doused herself with paraffin and locked herself in a neighbour's house with the two children, aged 7 and 8.
She then set the house ablaze, but neighbours noticed the fire and raised an alarm, allowing the children to be rescued.
The woman was handed over to the police and detained at Bondo Police Station as investigations continue.
It is suspected that she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
