Kenyan athletes Eliud Kipchoge and Timothy Cheruiyot have been nominated for the prestigious 2019 IAAF Male Athlete of the Year award, announced on October 14, 2019.

The nominees, which include 9 other athletes from around the world, will compete for the award, which will be decided on November 23 in Monaco, France.

According to the IAAF, the nominations reflect the range of exceptional performances witnessed in the sport this year, including the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, the Diamond League, and road and cross-country events.

Kipchoge, the Olympic marathon champion and world record holder, is among the favorites to win the award after his incredible performance at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria.

Cheruiyot, the 1,500m world champion, performed remarkably well by winning gold in the men's 1,500m at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha and also bagged the 1,500m Diamond League title.
