Published on October 14, 2019, a video of a Kenyatta University student's desperate plea for his mother to send him fare has taken the internet by storm.

The student, John Ngige, a first-year student from Kitale, was caught up in the chaos that erupted at the university on Monday, October 5.

Speaking to a local TV station, Ngige recounted how he was running for his life as he recorded a video and sent it to his mother, pleading with her to send him fare so he could go home.

"I was coming from the hostels heading to the gate so I could exit the school, but I found policemen at the gate chasing students back to the hostel. I was scared stiff, I was a first-year student. I decided to record a video and send it to my mother and tell her I don't want to stay here anymore. Send me fare I come home," he said.

Ngige's mother revealed that she was worried sick when she saw the video, but she eventually sent him the fare and he returned home safely.
