On Monday morning, a 53-year-old man lost his life after being brutally beaten by a mob in Ogwedhi village, Suna East, Migori County.

The man, identified as Sospeter Ouma, allegedly beheaded his 87-year-old mother with a panga on Sunday evening, prompting an angry mob to descend upon him.

According to Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge, the police managed to rescue the suspect and take him to Migori Level Four Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The motive behind the brutal killing of the elderly woman remains unclear, but Area Chief Wilson Ogwada revealed that the suspect had attempted to attack his brother and nephew after killing his mother.

Mr. Ogwada also stated that the suspect, who had recently returned from Mombasa, had shown signs of mental illness and had previously attempted to attack his mother, forcing her to flee and seek refuge in the neighborhood.
