On January 26, 2019, Joseph Kori sent a text message to his wife Mary Kamangara, which would be their last communication before her murder.

The message, sent after Kori returned home in Kiambu county to find his wife missing, read: 'HAVE FUN AND DON'T COME BACK HOME.'

Unbeknownst to Kori, his wife had already been murdered in their home, allegedly by his ex-lover Judy Mungai, who had smashed her head with a pressure cooker.

The murder case, which has been widely reported, is ongoing in court and is believed to have stemmed from a love triangle between the two women.

According to a court document, Kamangara had fought with Mungai after discovering photos of Kori hanging in Mungai's house.
