On Monday morning, a tragic incident occurred in Athi River, where a middle-aged man lost his life after being electrocuted while attempting to vandalize high voltage Kenya Power cables.
The victim, who was accompanied by five accomplices, had targeted new cables under installation along Mombasa road as part of the ongoing dual carriage road construction.
Kenya Power officers had connected the cables to live wire, fearing vandalism, which ultimately led to the electrocution of the victim.
His accomplices managed to escape unhurt, leaving behind a tragic scene.
Kenya Power Region Coordinator Cyrus Njenga condemned the incident, stating that it has become a habit for residents to vandalize cables, resulting in significant losses for the company.
The incident comes barely weeks after Kenya Power lost cables worth over 10 million shillings in similar incidents in Athi River.
The deceased body was taken to the Machakos Level Five Mortuary.
