This archive report was first published on 14 October 2019.

On a Sunday morning in January 2015, the lifeless body of Fidel Odinga, the firstborn son of Raila Odinga, was discovered in his Karen house. The death of the young man, who was seen as heir-apparent to his father's political dynasty and business empire, remains a mystery.

According to court documents, Fidel's mother, Ida Odinga, has accused Lwam Bekele, Fidel's widow, of masterminding his death. Ida claims that Lwam vanished soon after Fidel was buried and cut off communications with the family.

Ida and her daughter, Winnie, have filed an objection to Lwam being granted the letter of administration of Fidel's estate, which is believed to be worth billions. They argue that Lwam is a suspect in Fidel's death and should not be allowed to benefit from his wealth.

However, Lwam has denied the allegations, saying that Ida has been making 'false and unkind' remarks about her in connection to Fidel's death. The case will be mentioned on 16th October 2019.

Fidel and Lwam lived in Tipuana Park in Karen Nairobi, and family records show that Fidel had 10 properties and seven bank accounts. He also owned four cars and had shares in two companies.

Ida has also revealed that Fidel had twins from a different relationship, born six months after his death. Birth documents show that the twins were born on July 1, 2015, but do not indicate the father of the minors. Lwam claims that if it's proved that the twins were sired by Fidel, she would include them as beneficiaries.
