On October 13, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge set a new marathon record in Vienna, finishing the course in 2 hours 1 minute and 39 seconds.
However, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has rejected this record, citing concerns over the course's elevation and the use of pacemakers.
According to the IAAF, the course in Vienna was not suitable for a world record attempt due to its significant elevation changes, which could have given Kipchoge an unfair advantage.
The IAAF has stated that it will only recognize records set on courses that meet its strict criteria, which include a flat and even surface.
