On October 14, 2019, legendary radio presenter Leonard Mambo Mbotela shared a shocking tale of how he was almost conned by a relative during the Janjaruka series on Switch TV and YouTube.
A young man had approached Mbotela, claiming that his granny was in the hospital with a bill of Sh150,000, and that he had gathered Sh120,000 but needed Sh10,000 from Mbotela to settle the bill.
However, Mbotela was not convinced by the young man's story and decided to investigate further. He called his aunt to confirm the story, only to discover that the granny had already passed away two weeks ago and had been buried.
According to Mbotela, his aunt revealed that the young man was known to be deceptive, and that he had come back to Mbotela's house after two days, expecting to receive the money. Mbotela, however, had other plans and told the young man to look for work and earn money in a legitimate manner.
As of now, Mbotela has never seen the young man again.
When asked about the incident, Mbotela said, "When I looked at him, he looked like a person that showed his conmanship. He thought I was stupid, so I sent him back to come the next day."
He also added, "Because he was someone that I knew, I called my aunt. She confirmed that that granny was sick and the hospital bill had already been settled. To make matters worse, the granny had already died two weeks ago and had been buried."
