On October 14, 2019, a plot to rig the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections was exposed, revealing the depths of corruption within the organization.

Since taking over as FKF president in 2016, Nick Mwendwa has been a failure in leading the football body, and it was only a matter of time before he resorted to underhanded tactics to maintain his position.

Mwendwa single-handedly appointed a board to oversee the elections, with no input from stakeholders, clubs, or branches. The board is headed by Elinah Shiveka, a member of the Sports Disputes Tribunal, who has been accused of being a master rigger.

Shiveka's appointment is seen as a ploy to ensure that her fellow Luhya people rig the elections in Mwendwa's favor. If a case is presented to the Tribunal to dispute the elections, Mwendwa will likely be declared the winner, thanks to the support of Tribunal Chairman John Morris Ohaga.

Shiveka has a history of controversy, having sued the national broadcaster KBC for transferring her to Kisumu, where she wanted to stay and cut deals. She is also a perennial failure in her quest to become the National Olympic Committee of Kenya Treasurer.

Other members of the elections board include Abdi Said, Eunice Lumalasa, and Robert Nyakundi, all of whom were part of the board that messed up the FKF elections in 2016. They are now set to help Mwendwa rig the upcoming elections.

The Fifa statutes clearly state that an individual cannot preside over football elections in two consecutive polls, making Mwendwa ineligible to preside over the coming FKF elections.

Mwendwa is already being investigated by Fifa over the embezzlement of Sh134m, which was meant to buy an OB van. Reliable sources claim that FKF branches and sub-branches have written a letter to the DCI and EACC demanding that Mwendwa steps aside as he is being investigated.

Other scandals hanging over Mwendwa's head include investigations into the embezzlement of Sh240m from the government of Kenya, and the murder of an auctioneer who had gone to attach FKF property at the Fifa Goal Project in Kasarani.

Kenyans and FKF branches are planning a massive street demonstration in all 47 counties, accusing Mwendwa of killing the Kenyan Premier League, Nationwide League, and Women League due to rampant corruption in FKF.
