On October 14, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge, the world marathon record holder, took to Twitter to express his gratitude to former US President Barack Obama for congratulating him on achieving the INEOS 1:59 milestone.
Barack Obama had earlier congratulated Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei, who set a new women's world record in Chicago, saying, 'Staggering achievements on their own, they're also remarkable examples of humanity's ability to endure—and keep raising the bar.'
In his response, Eliud Kipchoge thanked Barack Obama and requested a meeting to discuss how to make the world a running world, which he believes is a key to achieving peace. He wrote, 'Thank you for inspiring me. It would be my greatest honour if we could meet, and discuss how we can make this world a running world. As a running world is a peaceful world.'
