Published on October 14, 2019, a growing number of Kenyans have come out as gay or lesbian, sparking a call for representation in the country's Parliament.

The union of gays and lesbians in Kenya is advocating for special nomination slots in the national assembly, arguing that this will provide a platform for them to voice their challenges and seek recognition.

According to the group, many Kenyans are quick to criticize and discriminate against them, viewing them as socially evil and morally diseased. However, they argue that this is a misplaced ideology and an infringement on their right to socialize.

During an interview, a large number of individuals turned out to express their views on the need for representation. They faulted the government for failing to provide them with the recognition accorded to their counterparts in other countries, stating that Kenya has failed to consider a section of its own people.

Some women who identified as lesbian also asked the government to consider creating elective slots for them in the government, citing the need for representation and recognition.
