Published on October 14, 2019, a court battle has erupted between Ida Odinga, the wife of ODM leader Raila Odinga, and her daughter-in-law Lwam Getachew Beke over the administration of Fidel Odinga's estate.

Fidel, the son of Raila Odinga, passed away on January 4, 2015, without a will, leaving behind a multibillion-shilling estate that includes a Karen home.

Ida has teamed up with her daughter Winnie Odinga to challenge Lwam's application for a grant of representation, arguing that she has unjustifiably locked out other interested parties from Fidel's estate.

Ida claims that Lwam has willfully and knowingly failed to declare all the assets and liabilities of the deceased, and that her aim is to ensure proper account and distribution of Fidel's estate, as well as to protect the wellbeing of her son's offspring.

Lwam, however, has stated that she is willing to list the twins born six months after Fidel's death as the deceased's dependents, despite their birth certificates having no indication of the father's name.
