On a remarkable weekend, Kenya's athletes stole the spotlight with incredible achievements in Austria, the US, and Tunisia.
On Saturday, Eliud Kipchoge, a 34-year-old Kenyan, defied odds to become the first person to run a marathon in under two hours, clocking 1:59.40 in Vienna, Austria.
His historic feat sent shockwaves across the globe, with international and local media splashing his name on front pages, TV stations, and websites.
Just hours later, Brigid Kosgei, a 26-year-old Kenyan, etched her name in history books by becoming the new women's world marathon record holder, clocking 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 04 seconds during the Chicago Marathon on Sunday.
Her achievement shattered Paula Radcliffe's 16-year-old record of 2:15:25, set on April 13, 2003, in London, and also broke the course record previously held by Radcliffe with a time of 2:17:18 on October 13, 2002.
Lawrence Cherono added to Kenya's impressive weekend by winning the men's race in Chicago, clocking 2 hours, 05 minutes, and 45 seconds.
Kenya's national women's rugby sevens team, the Lionesses, also qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, despite losing to South Africa in the Africa 7s final.
