On October 14, 2019, a woman named Karen Nyambu from Kiambu county came forward with claims that she was heavily pregnant with Eliud Kipchoge's child.

She sought help from Kenyans to be recognized by the Kipchoge family and to hug the marathon legend at the airport upon his arrival in the country.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko responded to the allegations, highlighting the case and alluding to a known scheme by women to target wealthy celebrities.

However, his aides later refuted claims that he had sided with Kipchoge, stating that the governor had not made any decision on the matter and would only make a public announcement after his intelligence team had completed their investigations.

According to a close aide, the governor would give a binding verdict within 48 hours once his private investigations were finalized.
