Published on October 14, 2019, a story by The Nairobian revealed the humble beginnings of Pastor David Kiongo, a 29-year-old from Gatundu South, Kiambu County.

According to Kiongo, he used to work at a construction site but one day, the owner refused to pay his colleagues, leading to a boycott. In the chaos, Kiongo scooped Sh. 10,000 and ran into a nearby coffee plantation, where he started his panties business with the remaining Sh. 2,000.

Today, Kiongo is one of the most popular panties dealers in Nairobi and Kiambu County, with women nicknamed him 'Kiongo wa panti.' He has been in the business for nearly a decade and has employed four people.

As a pastor at Victory Church in Weteithie, Thika, Kiongo does not shy away from his unique hustle. He receives orders through WhatsApp, where women send their photos to determine the size of their panties. He charges Sh. 100 for delivery and offers a three-month credit period to his loyal clients.

His business is profitable, with Kiongo taking home Sh. 200,000 in a good month. He attributes his success to the business, which has enabled him to feed his family and build a decent home for his parents.

Interestingly, Kiongo's business has also attracted men who stop by to buy panties for their women. He sources his goods from Kampala every three months, where they are cheaper.
