On October 14, 2019, chaos erupted in Kibra during a rally for the forthcoming by-election, where Jubilee Party flag bearer McDonald Mariga's campaign car was pelted with stones.
Mariga, a former footballer, expressed gratitude to his supporters on Facebook, thanking them for turning out in large numbers.
He specifically thanked the crowd that filled the Bukhungu Grounds in Makina Ward, welcoming Jubilee to Kibra.
Mariga also issued a warning to his competitors vying for the Kibra Parliamentary seat, urging them to maintain peace and refrain from violence, emphasizing that each candidate has an equal right to campaign in the constituency.
Despite the initial success of the rally, Mariga's convoy was disrupted by rowdy youth who set ablaze the vehicle's tires and a billboard with his image.
According to reports, the chaos was allegedly triggered by the discovery of Ksh10 million being used to buy IDs from targeted Kibra residents, reportedly linked to Deputy President William Ruto's men.
