On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the Royal Nairobi Golf Club played host to the Safari Tour Pro-Am event, sponsored by Magical Kenya and Absa. The event saw a team of professionals and amateurs compete for the top prize.
Justus Madoya's team, consisting of Maurice Monni, Abner Onsomu, and Joshua Ichangi, carded an impressive score of 86 points to claim the top spot. They triumphed by four points from the team led by Ken Abuto, who carded 82 points.
Kenyn Bollo's team, consisting of Milan Shah, K. Patel, and S. Patel, finished third with 80 points. In the individual nines, Abner Onsomu and Quram Vhatt tied with 22 points each.
Maurice Monni, who donated his prize to his teammate Joshua Ichangi, attributed their success to honesty and staying on the fairway. He also praised Joshua's perfect game and honesty.
Monni's impressive performance earned him 43 points in the individual members category, beating men's winner Samuel Nyaoke on countback.
Justus Madoya, a professional golfer from the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort in Naivasha, commended the course's condition, saying it was great and fairly easy to bring good scores if one stayed on the fairways.
Geoffrey Korir finished second in the men's section with 40 points, while Daniel Mwamati claimed the senior's prize with 35 points. Martha Mbote won the ladies category with 35 points, beating Mary Cox on countback.
The Pro-Am event was a curtain-raiser for the third leg of the 2019/2020 Safari Tour, which took place at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club course.
Meanwhile, the Thika Greens Golf Resort is hosting the East Africa Caddies Golf Tournament, which was initially expected to feature players from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. However, due to the Arusha Open, Tanzanian players could not travel, making it a battle between Kenya and Uganda.
