On October 12, 2019, a fake social media account created in the name of businessman Jimmy Wanjigi sparked a stir online after allegedly promising to buy a private jet for Eliud Kipchoge if he broke the two-hour marathon barrier.
However, Wanjigi clarified that he was not associated with the account, which had over 14,000 followers, and had not made any such promise.
Despite this, Wanjigi extended an invitation to the impersonator for a cup of coffee, praising their creativity in shaping online conversations.
"I actually want to meet the person behind the tweet over a cup of tea because his creativity has shaped conversations of Kenyans online," Wanjigi was quoted as saying by Citizen Digital.
The impersonator responded to Wanjigi's invitation, stating, "Looking forward to meeting my idol Jimmy Wanjigi. Make this dream come true."
However, concerned netizens have urged caution, warning that the meeting could be a trap where the impersonator could be arrested.
