Published on October 13, 2019, Saturday Night Live's latest episode, guest hosted by David Harbour, featured a parody sketch that poked fun at the dark reboots of popular franchises.
The sketch, which aired on October 12, 2019, targeted Sesame Street with a gritty reboot, showing the seedier side of the famous street, from Big Bird working the peep show to the Count measuring out his drugs.
David Harbour played Oscar the Grouch with a suitably Scorsesean origin story, showing his downward spiral from grumpy garbage collector to green-hued trashcan dweller.
The sketch also showed a tragic twist for Bert and Ernie, and Harbour's droning, sinister rendition of the show's theme song proved that anything can be unsettling if you try hard enough.
