On Sunday, police in Mumias made a significant bust along the Bungoma-Kakamega road, arresting two men in possession of 48 brooms of bhang.

According to Mumias West sub-county Police Commander Peter Kattam, the two suspects were transporting the illicit commodity on a motorcycle when they were signaled to stop by traffic police officers. However, they defied the order and sped off, prompting a police chase.

"After defying an order to stop when flagged our officers gave chase for about 200 meters and caught up with them at Ekama," said Kattam.

During the search, police found that the pillion passenger had wrapped 48 brooms of bhang around his chest and back. The police boss stated that they are yet to establish the street value of the impounded bhang.

The two men are expected to be arraigned in court today. This arrest comes as part of intensified police patrols along the Bungoma-Kakamega and Busia-Kakamega roads aimed at stopping the peddling of drugs.

It's worth noting that police in Mumias had previously arrested two men and impounded 680 litres of illicit liquor suspected to have been smuggled from Uganda.
