On a historic day in Chicago, Kenyan athlete Brigid Kosgei made headlines by shattering a 16-year-old world record in the women's marathon. The 25-year-old Kosgei clocked an impressive 2:14:04, leaving behind a trail of competitors and cementing her place in history.
Her remarkable performance saw her break Paula Radcliffe's 2003 record of 2:15:25, set at the London Marathon. This achievement adds to Kosgei's impressive resume, which already includes a win in London this year, where she became the youngest winner of the race with a time of 2:18:20.
Ababel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia finished second in Chicago, a respectable six minutes 47 seconds behind Kosgei's record-breaking time.
Radcliffe, the former world champion, was present at the finish line to witness Kosgei's remarkable performance and was among the first to congratulate her on this incredible achievement.
