Uhuru Kenyatta Condemns Terrorist Attack in Garissa, Kenya ¶
President Uhuru Kenyatta has condemned the terrorist attack in Garissa, Kenya, that resulted in the deaths of 11 police officers on October 12, 2019. The officers were from the General Service Unit (GSU) and were on patrol duty when they were ambushed by terrorists.
According to a statement from the State House, President Kenyatta has sent his condolences to the families of the deceased officers and has assured them that the government will provide them with support during this difficult time.
"Rais anatuma risala zake za rambi rambi kwa familia ya maafisa wa polisi walioangamia na kuwahakikishia msaada kutoka kwa Serikali wakati wa kipindi hiki cha kuomboleza," said Kanze Dena, the State House Spokesperson.
Waziri wa Usalama wa Ndani Fred Matiang'i also joined President Kenyatta in condemning the attack and described the deceased officers as patriots who died while serving their country.
"Ninatuma risala zangu za rambi rambi na kusimama na familia za maafisa wa polisi waliopoteza maisha yao eneo la Garissa usiku uliopita. Kujitola kwao bila ubinafsi kuwahudimia Wakenya itaendeleza vita vyetu dhidi ya ugaidi," Matiang'i wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said that a team of security officers had been deployed to the area to hunt down the terrorists.
He also revealed that the vehicle the officers were using was severely damaged in the attack.
