On October 13, 2019, a devastating incident occurred along the Kenya-Somalia border when a police van carrying ten officers was struck by a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along Damajare Harehare road.

The vehicle, a police Landcruiser, was severely damaged in the blast, which occurred at approximately 4pm, according to an incident report filed at the Liboi Police Station.

Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai confirmed the incident in a statement, adding that reinforcement had been dispatched to pursue the attackers.
