Published on October 13, 2019, Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has commended world Marathoner Eliud Kipchoge for uniting Kenya more than the 'useless Handshake initiative.'
Murkomen observed that while the handshake initiative has failed to bring the country under one umbrella, Kipchoge's record-breaking marathon on October 12, 2019, brought millions of Kenyans together in jubilation.
The senator noted that nearly all Kenyans were watching Kipchoge, with millions wishing him well and praying for him before he made it, as he continues in the task of uniting the country. This, said the senator, was only an occasional exercise but had brought millions of Kenyans together, standing tall and defending one of their own.
‘The handshake has failed in its primary task of uniting the country. It is high time we did away with it,’ the Senator claimed.
Murkomen recommended the need for the government to declare one of the days within the month of October, an Eliud Kipchoge’s day to mark the great victory and the unity the marathoner accorded the nation of Kenya.
He also suggested the need for the government to award the World record holder a slot within the government for such a magnificent achievement.
