On Saturday, a vehicle carrying 11 General Service Unit (GSU) officers ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Dadaab, Garissa County, resulting in the deaths of the officers.
The officers, who were on a routine security patrol, lost their lives at Degow on the road between Liboi and Damajale, close to the Kenya-Somalia border, at around 4 p.m.
President Kenyatta, in a statement on Sunday, also assured action to apprehend the suspected Al-Shabaab militants behind the attack.
"The President sends his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the departed officers and assures them of Government support during this difficult period of mourning," said State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena in the statement.
"The President sends a strong reminder to all misguided elements out to compromise the safety and security of Kenyans across the country that the Government and the people of Kenya will never succumb to their cowardly terrorist actions," the statement added.
A joint patrol team of officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, Administration Police, Rapid Border Patrol Unit, and Kenya Police Service has been deployed to comb the area around the scene of the incident.
