Six Injured in Matatu Accident on Oyugi-Sondu Road in Homa Bay

On October 12, 2019, a matatu carrying 32 passengers, including a body, was involved in an accident on the Oyugi-Sondu road in Rachuonyo, Homa Bay County.

The vehicle, belonging to NMOA Sacco, was headed to Nyakach from Nairobi when it overturned at Chabera area as the driver attempted to avoid a hole on the road, according to Peter Otieno, a passenger who survived the accident.

Rachuonyo East sub-county Police Commander Charles Barasa confirmed the incident, stating that road construction was ongoing in the area where the minibus overturned.

Barasa added that the six injured passengers were rushed to Saokon Medical Clinic within Chabera area for treatment, while the other passengers proceeded with their journey to Nyakach after the body was transferred to another vehicle.

The minibus was towed to Othoro Police Station by traffic police officers for inspection.
