On October 12, 2019, a devastating terrorist attack occurred in Daadab Garissa county, claiming the lives of 11 police officers from the Harhar General Service Unit (GSU) Camp.
The officers were on a routine security patrol when their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the road between Liboi and Damajale, close to the Kenya-Somalia border.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, assuring them of government support during this difficult period of mourning.
"The President sends his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the departed officers and assures them of Government support during this difficult period of mourning," reads a statement from State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena.
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has sent reinforcement to the area to pursue the attackers, and President Kenyatta has assured the public that action has been taken to apprehend the perpetrators.
The government and the people of Kenya will never succumb to cowardly terrorist actions, the President emphasized.
